Toyota’s Younger RAV4 Model Changed Radiator Grille from Mustache-like to Honeycomb

Toyota has unveiled the updated Yaris Cross crossover for the European and UK markets. Key changes concern the design, new colors, and an updated interior trim.

Updated Exterior Design

The most noticeable change for the 2026 model year is the new body-colored honeycomb radiator grille. This solution is borrowed from larger models such as the Corolla Cross and RAV4. The front bumper received a cleaner design with a simpler plastic air dam, subtle aluminum underbody protection, and no side air intakes. The headlights retained their shape but feature new graphics for the LED daytime running lights, which are now integrated into the main optics.

Other parts of the body remained virtually unchanged. Similar updates apply to the GR Sport grade, which has unique bumpers. A more off-road-oriented Trail version is also expected to appear.

The color palette has been enriched with the Precious Bronze shade in a two-tone configuration, and the new Persian Salt color replaced the former Shimmering Silver. Furthermore, new alloy wheel designs up to 18 inches in diameter have appeared.

Interior Changes

The interior looks familiar, with the same 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.5-inch multimedia system screen. However, the doors and dashboard received new platinum-colored inserts. Similar inserts appeared on the sport seats, which are now part of the Design grade, along with contrasting three-color stitching.

The top Excel grade features seats with partial leather upholstery and SakuraTouch material, made from plant-based PVC, cork waste, and recycled PET. Power-adjustable mirrors are standard across all grades, while ambient lighting and wireless charging have been added to the Design grade and above. A power tailgate is standard for Excel.

The flagship GR Sport has the coolest interior with suede-like seat upholstery, red stitching, and GR emblems throughout the cabin, as well as metallic silver-colored inserts on the door cards and dashboard.

Safety and Technology

The safety systems received minor improvements. The standard Toyota Safety Sense package now includes a parking support system for the Design grade and above, while a Blind Spot Monitor is available on Excel and GR Sport versions.

Hybrid Powertrains

Under the hood, there are no changes – the Yaris Cross retains an exclusively hybrid powertrain lineup for Europe and the UK.

The most powerful Hybrid 130 system, introduced back in 2023, develops a combined 128 hp and 185 Nm of torque, driving the front or all four wheels. The base Hybrid 115 also remains, producing 114 hp and 141 Nm.

The GR Sport version is available exclusively with the Hybrid 130 powertrain and front-wheel drive, and also has a unique suspension tuning that promises sharper and more engaging handling. It is worth noting that all Yaris Cross grades received improvements in noise insulation for the 2024 model year, including thicker glass and better soundproofing.

Availability and Pricing

Toyota confirmed that the updated Yaris Cross lineup, including Icon, Design, Excel, and GR Sport grades, will be available to order in the UK market this autumn.

Prices for the UK and European markets will be announced later. The Japanese-spec Yaris Cross for the 2026 model year will continue to be produced with the previous design and minor updates.

The Yaris Cross updates demonstrate Toyota’s classic approach to a facelift: noticeable but not radical design changes, an emphasis on trim quality, and an expansion of standard equipment. The retention of the hybrid engine lineup underscores the brand’s strategy in the European market, where demand for eco-friendly technologies remains high. The model’s success in 2025 suggests that these updates aim not so much to attract new customers as to maintain existing interest in one of the company’s most important cars in the region.
