Nissan is preparing a new version of the compact Kicks crossover
Nissan appears to be working on expanding the range of its compact Kicks model for the North American market. Fresh spy photos taken on US roads show a camouflaged prototype that could become the basis for a new, more off-road-oriented version called the Rock Creek Edition.
Details of the new Kicks exterior
The images show a vehicle with production numbers, captured in the state of Tennessee. The camouflage hides changes to the front end, including the bumper, grille, and air intakes. The rear, including the tailgate and bumper, is also covered with film. Additionally, roof rails are noticeable, and the wheel rims are also camouflaged, indicating a new design.
This evidence emerged several months after Nissan presented a special, lightly off-road-prepared version of the Kicks at the Montreal auto show. That concept also had roof rails and modified bumpers for a more “rugged” look.
Continuity of the Rock Creek lineup
Nissan offers Rock Creek versions for the larger Rogue and Pathfinder SUVs, making them slightly more adventure-ready and giving them a bolder design.
These modifications typically include body changes, roof rails, new wheels, and all-terrain tires. Interestingly, the Kicks prototype is fitted with regular road tires, but other options may be available optionally.
Technical specifications will remain unchanged
No changes to the powertrain are expected. Most likely, it will retain the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 141 horsepower and 189 Nm of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The appearance of such a version for the smallest and most affordable crossover in Nissan’s lineup could be a logical step to attract a new audience. Market demand is growing for vehicles with an off-road, adventurous image, even if their real capabilities are limited. The success of similar packages for larger models likely inspired engineers to adapt this concept for the urban Kicks, offering buyers an additional style choice without serious changes to the technical part. This allows the manufacturer to update the model range quickly and with minimal cost.
