Rockstar Games has postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to May 26, 2026.
The sixth installment of the iconic series was supposed to be released this fall.
Now players will have to wait 13 years since the release of GTA 5.
Despite the huge demand for a new installment of the legendary franchise, the developers have decided to delay the release. The official announcement confirmed that GTA 6 will only appear in 2026.
Initially, the game was supposed to become available for purchase and download this fall, but now the release will happen no earlier than May of next year. Thus, a whole 13 years will pass between the releases of the fifth and sixth parts. Rockstar representatives explained that this difficult decision was made to guarantee quality and avoid disappointment.
“We sincerely apologize for the shift in timelines,” the company’s official statement says. “Your interest in the new part of GTA is very inspiring to our team. Thank you for your support and patience as we complete work on the project.”
“Each of our games is created with the goal of exceeding player expectations, and GTA VI is no exception. We hope you understand the need for additional time to achieve the proper level of quality.”
After an active wave of information in the early 2020s, news about GTA became much less. Initially, video materials with gameplay of the future game leaked online, causing dissatisfaction from Rockstar, and at the end of 2023, the studio finally presented the first official trailer.
The video confirmed that the action of GTA 6 will take place in the fictional city of Vice City, whose prototype is Miami. In addition to new cars, the game will offer street racing mechanics.
Although the release delay is disappointing, we are ready to wait if it allows us to avoid the numerous technical problems that accompanied the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 five years ago.
