Something between Cybertruck and Hummer EV presented at the Shanghai Auto Show (photo)

The new electric off-roader is named GAC 01 and externally resembles a sort of “crossbreed” between the electric Tesla Cybertruck and Hummer, but with a Chinese vision of futurism. Clumsy lines, massive shapes, flat doors and arches reminiscent of armored vehicles create the image of a car from the future.

The front of the concept features headlights split into two levels and a solid LED strip across the entire width. The mirrors are replaced by cameras, and the cargo compartment is quite short, hinting at urban positioning despite its off-road appearance. The interior features an octagonal steering wheel, a giant screen, and a strict, angular architecture.

The GAC 01 is built on the adaptive GAIA platform. According to the developers, the powertrain and suspension can be dynamically adjusted for urban, cargo, or off-road modes. The manufacturer has also announced advanced driver assistance systems, but technical specifications have not yet been disclosed.

Interestingly, the production version of this pickup will not be released in China first, but initially in the markets of Australia, Chile, and Saudi Arabia. Later, in Mexico. This may indicate GAC’s global ambitions and an attempt to establish itself where the Tesla Cybertruck and Hummer EV are already well-known.
