Ford plant made a mistake that could cause steering problems in thousands of pickups

Ford F-150 recall due to steering issues

Ford has announced a recall of nearly 10,000 F-150 pickups from the 2025 model year due to problems with the steering mechanism fastening. According to the report, improper tightening of the fasteners could lead to gaps in the steering system or even complete detachment of components.

As reported by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

“The fastener that secures the lower intermediate shaft to the steering gear may not have been tightened to the manufacturer’s specifications.”

This creates a risk of losing control of the vehicle while driving.

Cause of the problem and the company’s actions

The manufacturer determined that the issue stems from a failure in the quality control system on the assembly line. The system may have registered the parts as properly secured even if they were insufficiently tightened.

The problem came to light after a complaint from a dealership employee who noticed excessive steering play during a pre-sale test drive. Further investigation revealed the absence of a fastener. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notifications this month with instructions for free repairs at authorized service centers.

This incident is the latest in a series of Ford recalls, raising questions about the company’s current quality standards. Although only one warranty claim has been reported so far, the absence of accident reports does not diminish the potential danger to drivers. The manufacturer must urgently address this issue to avoid further loss of consumer trust.
