The Most “Mitsubishi” Thing in This New Hybrid Crossover is Perhaps the Logo

Mitsubishi Presents the New Compact SUV Grandis for Europe

Mitsubishi continues to expand its model range, focusing on electric vehicles. The Grandis is a compact family SUV developed based on the Renault Symbioz. The model name returns after a hiatus – it was previously used for a minivan sold from 2003 to 2011.

The new version of the Grandis received an updated front-end design, similar to the smaller ASX model, as well as original LED daytime running lights. The rear looks more stylish compared to the base Renault model, with new lights and dynamic lines on the tailgate.

Technical Features and Equipment

The interior is virtually identical to the Renault Symbioz, with the same 10.4-inch multimedia system and a full set of driver assistance systems. The car offers space for five passengers and a trunk volume from 434 to 566 liters.

Under the hood, the Grandis is available with two powertrain options:

“With the launch of the Outlander PHEV last year, we are strengthening our lineup in the European market with the introduction of the new Grandis,” said Tatsuo Nakamura, Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi.

Production of the model will begin at the Renault plant in Valladolid (Spain), where it will be assembled alongside the Renault Symbioz. Mitsubishi is expected to also present a fully electric version by the end of the year, developed based on the Renault Scenic E-Tech.

Given the growing demand for environmentally friendly cars in Europe, the Grandis could become an important player in the segment of affordable hybrid SUVs. The company is clearly betting on diversity – from micro-hybrids to full electric vehicles – to meet the different needs of buyers.
