New BMW M2 CS: lighter, more powerful, but without a manual transmission
BMW has unveiled the updated M2 CS, which may make buyers reconsider their plans to purchase an M3. This model has gained an extra 50 hp, bringing its total output to 523 hp. Combined with reduced weight and a refined suspension, the M2 CS has become even more thrilling and dynamic.
However, there is a significant drawback—the absence of a manual transmission. The manufacturer explains this by citing low demand for “manual” transmissions. Instead, the M2 CS is equipped with an eight-speed “automatic,” which has already proven itself in the standard version.
Technical specifications
The 3.0-liter S58 engine now delivers 523 hp and 649 Nm of torque, which is 49 Nm more than the standard M2. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.7 seconds—0.2 seconds faster than the base model. The top speed is electronically limited to 303 km/h.
BMW engineers have also improved the cooling system, reinforced the engine mounts, and optimized handling. This has allowed for sharper throttle response and improved dynamics in the mid-range RPMs.
Design and weight
The M2 CS differs from the standard version not only in technical specifications but also in design. The car features exclusive wheels (19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear), which can be ordered with racing tires at no extra cost. The front grille is adorned with geometric elements, and the rear diffuser has become even more massive.
Thanks to the use of carbon fiber for the roof, trunk lid, and mirrors, the car’s weight has been reduced by 44 kg. The interior also features carbon elements, and the M Carbon Bucket Seats allow for headrest removal to accommodate a helmet.
Price and availability
The M2 CS will cost significantly more than the standard M2—$98,600 compared to $64,900. This makes it nearly equal in price to the M3 Competition xDrive. Production will be limited, and the first deliveries will begin in the third quarter of 2026.
Despite the high price, the M2 CS could be an interesting option for those seeking a more extreme driving experience. Its limited production and unique technical solutions make it a potential collector’s item.
