Xiaomi’s largest SUV is equipped with front seats that rotate to a table

Xiaomi, known for its smartphones and electric vehicles, has introduced its new flagship SUV. This is the brand’s first car to receive a new name and is focused on creating a mobile space for living and working.

New brand and first hybrid

The SUV, which has received the index N90, launches a new Xiaomi series called Sky Nomad. It is the company’s first car to use range-extender technology (an electric vehicle with a gasoline generator), rather than being fully electric like the previous SU7 and YU7 models. The design of the new model is radically different from other brand vehicles, featuring more boxy shapes for maximum interior space.

Dimensions and versions

The car is built on the Kunlun architecture. Its length is 5,285 mm, width is 1,998 mm, and height is 1,825 mm. A wheelbase of 3,080 mm puts it in the same league as competitors such as the Li Auto 9, Auto M9, and Zeekr 9X. There is also a separate camping version, which has a height of 1,925 mm thanks to a pop-up roof and a sleeping area on top. A lidar is also installed on the roof for advanced driver assistance systems.

Transformable interior

The main feature of the N90 is its cabin. The front seats can rotate 180 degrees, and a table can be installed between them, turning the cabin into a mobile meeting space. The second row of seats folds flush with the third, creating a large sleeping area. The cabin is finished with high-quality materials and leather, and the center console has a large display. Buyers will be able to choose between five- and seven-seat configurations. The second row is equipped with zero-gravity seats, and a moving ceiling screen is located overhead.

Technical specifications

The new model will receive a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a power output of 112 kW (150 hp), which works as a generator to power the electric motors. The powertrain consists of two electric motors with a combined peak power output of 210 kW (282 hp) and 100 kW (134 hp). The top speed is limited to 190 km/h. The car is equipped with a battery capacity of 76 kWh, which provides an electric driving range of 363 to 370 km according to the WLTC cycle.

The launch of the Xiaomi Sky Nomad N90 is scheduled for later this year. This vehicle marks a new stage for Xiaomi, which is transitioning from producing exclusively electric vehicles to hybrid technologies. The ‘apartment car’ concept with an emphasis on transforming the cabin for work and relaxation could be a powerful argument in the market, where competition in the large SUV segment is extremely high. The lack of a direct connection to the design of previous models indicates Xiaomi’s attempt to create a completely new product aimed at a different type of consumer who values not only technology, but also versatility and space.
