The Most Accessible Subaru BRZ Model for 2026 is Now Nearly $4,000 More Expensive Than the Ford Mustang

Main Changes to the Model Lineup

It’s not the best time for Subaru BRZ enthusiasts — the company is discontinuing the base Premium trim and increasing the car’s starting price to $35,860. This is $2,650 more expensive than the previous year’s model, and this is without considering the increased destination fee, which has risen from $1,170 to $1,195.

Although this news may be disappointing, Subaru explains that the Premium trim accounted for less than 10% of total sales in 2025. Considering that only 2,107 BRZ cars were sold from the beginning of the year through August, we are talking about fewer than 211 units. Bill Stokes from Subaru noted:

Our optimized BRZ model lineup reflects buyer preferences for a lightweight sports coupe with the technology and comfort offered in the Limited and tS trims.

New Trim Structure

Following the discontinuation of the Premium, the BRZ Limited now assumes the role of the base model. Its price remains unchanged at $35,860. This version is equipped with LED lighting, 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch multimedia system, and the EyeSight driver assist system. The interior features seats upholstered in leather and Alcantara, Brin Naub trim, red contrast stitching, and aluminum pedals.

Sport and Special Versions

The BRZ tS trim also remains unchanged in price at $38,360. It is equipped with a Brembo braking system, Hitachi dampers, and has a number of distinctive features such as Crystal Black Silica accents, blue contrast stitching, and instrument dials with red elements.

A new special version, the BRZ Series.Yellow, priced at $39,360, introduced earlier this month, has also been added to the lineup. It features a yellow exterior paint, black emblems, matte 18-inch alloy wheels, and yellow interior accents.

Technical Specifications and Prices

All models, regardless of trim, are equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 228 horsepower and 249 Nm of torque. The tS and Series.Yellow versions are exclusively available with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Limited offers an optional six-speed automatic transmission for $850.

These changes in pricing policy and trim structure reflect a general trend in the sports car market, where manufacturers are increasingly focusing on more expensive, well-equipped versions that are in demand among enthusiasts. The limited demand for base models makes their production less economically viable, especially in conditions where the overall sales volumes of such niche cars remain low. The new special Series.Yellow version is likely aimed at maintaining interest in the model and attracting new buyers through its exclusive design.
