2027 Toyota Crown Update: New Features and Price Changes
Toyota Crown remains one of the most unusual models in the brand’s American lineup. It is a vehicle that blends sedan and crossover traits, offering buyers something in between. For the 2027 model year, the Crown received several updates and a slight price increase, although the cost increase for one trim turned out to be more significant.
Technical Specifications and Transmission
For 2027, the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade trims are equipped with Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system. It combines a 2.5-liter engine with electric motors on the front and rear axles. Exact power figures for this setup have not yet been published. The top-of-the-line Platinum trim retains its Hybrid MAX system based on a 2.4-liter turbo engine, producing 340 hp and 542 Nm of torque—these figures remain unchanged.
All-wheel drive is available for all trims, but the most advanced system is still reserved for the Platinum. While the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade use a rear electric motor for additional traction when needed, the Platinum has permanent all-wheel drive that intelligently distributes power between the axles. A new feature for the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade are paddle shifters, which should make driving these trims more engaging.
Exterior and Interior Changes
Visually, the 2027 Crown is almost indistinguishable from the previous model. The most noticeable change is the updated rear bumper. The Platinum version also gets red brake calipers and black window trim. As with the Japanese version introduced earlier, two-tone cars now have a trunk lid in the body color instead of the black panel that made the rear of the car look somewhat odd.
The interior remains virtually unchanged. It continues to feature a 12.3-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Exclusive features of the Platinum trim include a 10-inch head-up display, power-adjustable steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment, dynamic rear steering, and a hands-free trunk opening.
2027 Toyota Crown Pricing
The 2027 Crown XLE Hybrid AWD starts at $41,640, which is $200 more than last year. The price of the Crown Limited Hybrid AWD has increased significantly—by $3,770, to $49,720. The Nightshade trim has gone up by $200, to $48,965, and the Platinum price has also increased by $200, to $55,190. All prices exclude the mandatory processing and delivery fee of $1,295.
Thus, the biggest update for 2027 is not technical changes but a significant price increase for the Limited trim, which is almost 19 times higher than the cost increase for other trims. This makes the Limited a less attractive choice compared to the Nightshade, which costs only $755 less but offers a sportier exterior. Overall, Toyota continues to evolve the Crown, making it more comfortable and technologically advanced, albeit with some pricing surprises.
