Fiat 500e in Service with the Greek Police
The Greek police have received 10 Fiat 500e electric cars, which are now patrolling the streets of Athens. These compact vehicles are equipped with a special police design, including blue decals on the white body and strobe lights on the roof. They are fitted with a 117 hp electric motor, allowing them to accelerate to 100 km/h in 9 seconds – this is sufficient for urban conditions.
Interestingly, the police chose the modification with an additional rear door on the passenger side. Initially, Fiat developed this feature for the convenience of families with children, but now it may come in handy for transporting detainees. The 42 kWh battery provides a range of up to 321 km according to the WLTP standard, which is quite sufficient for city patrolling.
Electric Vehicles in the Greek Police Fleet
The Fiat 500e is not the only electric vehicle at the disposal of the Greek police. On the island of Chalki, even more compact electric bicycles have been in use since 2021. Besides them, the police have a wide selection of cars – from the Seat Leon and Hyundai i30 to more powerful models such as the Hyundai i30 N and Cupra Leon VZ, intended for highway pursuits.
Despite its status as the brand’s electric flagship, the Fiat 500e was not commercially successful, so Stellantis has focused on hybrid versions. A new generation of the Fiat 500 is expected to appear in 2032.
The Greek police continue to expand their fleet of environmentally friendly vehicles, setting an example for other countries. The choice of the Fiat 500e highlights the growing role of compact electric vehicles in urban infrastructure, where maneuverability and efficiency are often more important than speed performance.
