Kia’s Smallest Crossover Has Received a Radical Redesign That Could Save It

Kia Stonic Update: What to Expect from the New Model

The popularity of compact crossovers in Europe is growing, and Kia is preparing a serious update for the Stonic model, which debuted back in 2017. The car, based on the Kia Rio platform, already received minor changes in 2020, but now it is awaiting a more profound modernization.

Test photos have shown that the updated Stonic will get vertical headlights, a new radiator grille, and fresh L-shaped rear lights. Although the overall silhouette will remain the same, the rear end will be significantly redesigned. The interior is expected to feature modern digital panels, an improved multimedia system, and new upholstery options.

Technical Updates

Under the hood, the 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a mild hybrid system will likely remain, but with improved efficiency figures. Kia may also update the chassis to improve comfort and handling.

The official debut of the updated Stonic is expected in 2026. It will continue to be offered as a gasoline alternative to the electric EV2 model, which Kia plans to introduce in the coming years. This will allow the brand to reach a larger audience of buyers who are not yet ready to switch to electric vehicles.

The Stonic update is happening at a key moment when the compact crossover market is becoming increasingly competitive. Kia is trying to combine a proven platform with modern design solutions and technologies to remain relevant in this segment. Particular attention should be paid to how the company integrates elements of its new electric design into traditional models.
