New Nissan X-Trail Version for Japan Transforms SUV into Mobile Bedroom
Nissan has introduced a new version of the X-Trail SUV in Japan, which turns the vehicle into an improvised bedroom on wheels. The Multi-Bed model, aimed at drivers who love adventures beyond civilization, builds upon the Rock Creek SUV concept and adds a number of smart features for practicality and outdoor trips.
Key features of the novelty:
Response to the Demand for Sleeping in a Car
This release followed the update of the X-Trail model for the Japanese market and reflects the growing interest in the idea of “car camping.” The manufacturer has already implemented similar Multi-Bed conversions for several of its minivans, including the Caravan, Vanette, and Serena. However, this is the first time such an approach has been applied to an SUV.
Bedroom, Ready in Minutes
The main feature of the package is a double mattress that can be unfolded over the luggage compartment and folded rear seats. The mattress is made of water-repellent Cordura material and features lava red stitching that matches the seat upholstery of the Rock Creek version.
When the mattress is not in use, it can be disassembled into parts and stored in the trunk, leaving space for luggage underneath.
Additionally, the luggage compartment is covered with a solid floor panel that can be combined with a rubber mat. Overall, the X-Trail Multi-Bed may not match the comfort of the Caravan MyRoom, but it looks more than capable as a sturdy, family SUV in which you can spend the night.
More Aggressive Exterior Look
For buyers who want to emphasize the vehicle’s off-road character, Nissan offers the Sotoasobi package. It adds a matte black hood, bolt-on fender flares, and unique badges.
A whole range of other additional options is also available. The Outdoor package includes mud flaps, side sills, running boards, door handle protectors, and cargo area protective film. The Roof Carrier package offers utility for carrying gear on the roof. Finally, the Rock Creek Basic Plus package covers minor finishing touches such as floor mats, visors, license plate accessories, and a wheel lock.

Price and Availability
The Multi-Bed version is available exclusively with the self-charging e-Power hybrid powertrain, paired with the standard e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system.
Nissan plans to present the X-Trail Rock Creek Multi-Bed at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026. Sales have already started in Japan, with a starting price of approximately 5,327,300 yen (about $34,000 USD).
Additional equipment is available at various costs: the Roof Carrier package adds about 152,600 yen ($970), the Rock Creek Basic Plus costs about 154,000 yen ($980), the Outdoor Package — 197,289 yen ($1,260), and the full Sotoasobi package — 232,155 yen ($1,480).
The emergence of such a modification for a popular crossover clearly indicates a growing trend for cars that combine everyday practicality with the possibility of spontaneous adventures. It is no longer just a means of transport, but a mobile base for recreation that does not require additional expenses for camping equipment. Such offers may become especially relevant in conditions where traditional recreation is becoming less accessible or predictable, giving drivers more freedom and flexibility in planning trips.
