Volkswagen ID.4 Update: What to Expect
Volkswagen is preparing a large-scale update for the ID.4 electric crossover, which will go beyond a typical facelift. The updated model is expected to debut in 2026 and will receive a completely redesigned exterior, an updated interior, and an improved technical base. This will allow the ID.4 to become more competitive in the electric vehicle market.
Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer emphasized the importance of the update:
“We will completely redesign the ID.4 inside and out. It will be a completely different car – a big step forward”
. The design of the updated model will correspond to the new brand language, which has already been introduced in the ID.Buzz and ID.2 concepts.
Technical Changes and the Model’s Future
Among the key changes is a completely new interior with more convenient controls, including the return of physical buttons instead of touch panels. The MEB platform will remain but will receive updates that will improve performance and range.
At the same time, Volkswagen may abandon the ID.5 coupe version due to low sales. Instead, the company will focus on expanding the lineup, including new ID.2 and ID.1 models, which are expected to appear in the coming years. The updated ID.4 is likely to become a key model in the brand’s electric strategy, combining technology with a more familiar design.
The electric vehicle market in Europe continues to grow, and Volkswagen is trying to maintain its leading positions. The success of the updated ID.4 could determine the brand’s further strategy in the face of increasing competition from Asian and American manufacturers. Particular attention is paid to the balance between innovation and solutions familiar to customers, which could be the key to success in the mass segment.
