The Most Popular Dacia Crossover Will Soon Get an Electric Version

Dacia is Preparing an Electric Version of the Duster

The Romanian automaker Dacia is expanding its electric lineup. Following the success of the Spring, the company is preparing an electric version of the popular Duster crossover. The new model will retain its off-road character but will receive an electric drive, remaining affordable in price.

According to Dacia CEO Denis Le Vot, the electric Duster will “appear in time,” although the exact launch dates have not yet been disclosed. More details about the brand’s plans for electric vehicles will be revealed during a special presentation in November.

Technical Features

The electric Duster will likely be built on the CMF-BEV platform, which is already used in the Renault 5 and 4. This architecture allows for both front-wheel and all-wheel drive, making it ideal for a crossover. The use of a shared platform will allow Dacia to produce electric vehicles at the same facilities as conventional cars, reducing costs.

The design of the electric version is unlikely to undergo serious changes—the company traditionally focuses on minimizing costs. The new model is expected to retain the modern look of the current model.

Competition and Future

In the market, the electric Duster will face competitors such as the Renault 4 E-Tech, Jeep Avenger, and Suzuki e-Vitara. However, the petrol and hybrid versions of the Duster will remain in production at least until the 2030s. In the coming years, Dacia also plans to introduce an electric Sandero and a new affordable urban electric vehicle.

Despite the growing popularity of electric vehicles, Dacia continues to develop conventional models. The arrival of a new all-wheel drive version of the Duster with a hybrid transmission, similar to the Jeep Avenger 4Xe, is expected soon. The European ban on internal combustion engines is only planned for 2035, so the company still has time to develop various types of powertrains.
