The Most Powerful Hatchback from Volkswagen Could Get 400 Horsepower and a Triple-Electric Motor System

Volkswagen Could Release a Powerful ID.2 R Version

The Volkswagen company plans to expand the ID.2 electric vehicle lineup by adding a high-performance ID.2 R version. According to reports, this model could receive a three-motor system with a power output of around 400 hp, surpassing the performance figures of the Golf R.

According to information from Autocar, Volkswagen is exploring the possibility of using hub motors to improve dynamics and handling. It is assumed that the ID.2 R will get one motor at the front, like the ID.2 GTI, and two additional ones on the rear wheels. This will allow for the implementation of all-wheel drive with intelligent torque distribution.

“This technology can provide impressive handling thanks to predictive torque distribution, roll control via brakes, and dynamic driving modes.”

Testing of the Standard ID.2 Version

Recent spy photos have captured a prototype of the regular ID.2 during testing in the Alps. The car, camouflaged in black-and-white wrap, differs from the ID.2all concept with a redesigned front end, an enlarged hood, and modified headlights.

The production version is expected to be as spacious as the Golf but priced closer to the Polo. It was initially planned to be introduced in 2025, but is now expected to debut in 2026. The model will be built on the MEB Entry platform, and the base variant will get around 223 hp and a range of up to 450 km.

The electric vehicle market is constantly growing, and Volkswagen is trying to establish itself in the segment of affordable yet technologically advanced models. The ID.2 R could become an important step in this direction, combining high performance with modern electric drive solutions.
