The next M3 from BMW will get an electric version and an updated six-cylinder engine

BMW has been hinting at the new M3 for months and is now ready to reveal details about the next generation of this model. It is expected to appear within the next two years in two variants – electric and with an internal combustion engine.

Although this was expected, Dr. Mike Reichelt from BMW recently officially confirmed this information. He noted: “We will offer it with a new six-cylinder engine because we understand that some M-series fans may find it difficult to give up traditional technologies.” However, he is confident that the fully electric M3 will reach new heights and attract new customers thanks to completely different on-road behavior.

A representative of BMW Neue Klasse added that both versions – electric and ICE – will have an identical external appearance and digital functions. However, the focus will not be solely on the 0-100 km/h acceleration time.

On the contrary, the company is focused on handling dynamics, where their new Heart of Joy system plays a key role. Despite the marketing name, this system is a powerful controller that manages the powertrain, brakes, steering, and recuperation system. It processes information ten times faster than previous developments.

This will allow for a new level of speed and precision, as well as create harmonious interaction between different components. In particular, the synchronization of the powertrain, brakes, and recuperation system will allow for most situations to be handled without using the brakes, which will increase efficiency by 25%.

Reichelt also said that the system will allow entering a turn at a specific angle without the need to adjust the trajectory. This feature may not appeal to all drivers, depending on their preferences for the “purity” of control.
