Tesla is Preparing a New Model That Should Be “Cooler Than a Minivan”
Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla is working on a new car model. This statement instantly ignited online speculation. The most popular theory suggests it is a rugged SUV with three rows of seats, inspired by the Cybertruck design.
Of course, there is always the possibility that the big announcement will turn out to be the extended version of the Model Y, already spotted at the Texas factory. In that case, Musk’s talent for creating hype would have worked at full capacity again.
Hints from the CEO and the Appearance of a Clay Model
On March 24, Tesla’s CEO made a post on a social network, noting that the Cybertruck’s rear bench is quite spacious. In response to a user’s suggestion to create a minivan, Musk left a cryptic reply:
Something much cooler than a minivan is already on the way.
One of the most plausible options is the so-called “CyberSUV.” Back in September 2025, an official Tesla video showed a clay model in the background that resembled an SUV related to the Cybertruck.

The mockup featured a revised roofline and glazing, while the front-end design, LED light bar, and flat stainless-steel panels appeared to be borrowed from the pickup.
Strategic Context and Discontinuation of Other Models
This announcement is strategically significant against the backdrop of Tesla discontinuing production of the Model S and Model X by the end of this year. This frees up capacity and leaves a noticeable gap in the company’s model lineup.
Creating an SUV on the Cybertruck platform makes strategic sense. Sales of the electric pickup have not met initial expectations, and a related SUV could help increase production utilization at Gigafactory Texas. Furthermore, it would allow the company to enter the full-size SUV segment, which remains popular among American buyers. Using a shared platform and components would also significantly reduce development costs.
Alternative Option: Extended Model Y for the US Market
Another possibility is the arrival in North America of the extended version of the Model Y, which is already on sale in China. Musk previously stated that this model would not appear in US production before the end of 2026. However, recent footage from the Texas factory suggests otherwise.
Well, that’s interesting… what do you think it is?
Drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer filmed a large car body, packed in blue plastic and a wooden crate. Many believe it is the body of the Tesla Model Y L with an extended wheelbase and six seats.
The question of whether the new Tesla model will truly be cooler than a minivan remains open. We hope the company will soon dispel all doubts.
Work on the new model is happening at a crucial moment for Tesla, as the company is actively diversifying its model lineup and seeking new growth points. The transition from the legendary but now outdated Model S and X to new products based on modern architecture is a logical step. Whether it will be a massive CyberSUV or a practical extended crossover, the main task for the brand remains to maintain its leading position in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle market. The success of the new model will largely depend on whether it can combine distinctive design, technological innovation, and an acceptable price—a formula that has always been challenging but winning for Musk’s company.
