Expansion of the Neue Klasse Lineup
The next generation of BMW models is rolling out rapidly, and the brand is not shy about spreading the Neue Klasse concept across its entire lineup. It will first appear in the iX3, soon to be followed by the all-electric i3 sedan, and shortly after that by the iX4 coupe-SUV, which we already reported on today.
Future of the 1-Series Hatchback
The 1-Series hatchback is also preparing for a new phase, which could include both internal combustion engines and an electric powertrain. The electric version, likely to be designated i1, might look like this in these new renders.
BMW Will Keep The 1 Series Alive And Upgrade It With The i1 EV
Design by Sugar Design
Created by digital artist Sugar Design, the i1 hatchback combines elements from Neue Klasse concepts with features from the second-generation iX3. At the front, it features the latest interpretation of the BMW kidney grille.
Unlike the iX3, this i1 version uses the elongated grille previewed by the Neue Klasse concept sedan, unifying the lighting units into a single visual element.
Shape and Style
The overall shape of the i1 is particularly exciting. It features an elongated roof and a steeply raked rear window, giving it the shooting brake aura that car enthusiasts love, in a compact hatchback package.
Of course, a less vertical rear window could impact trunk space, but with such a stylish look, it doesn’t matter.
Importance of the 1-Series
Earlier this year, BMW’s Senior Vice President of Brand and Product Management, Bernd Körber, emphasized the importance of the internal combustion engine 1-Series model and stated that it would remain on the market. The current ICE version is key for markets such as Greece, Spain, and Italy, and serves as an attractive entry point into the BMW family.
Technical Details
Technical details for the next-generation 1-Series are still limited, but it is expected to inherit many components from other Neue Klasse models. The use of parts from other BMW Group divisions, including Mini, is also possible.
The development of electric models like the i1 demonstrates how BMW is adapting to market changes while maintaining traditional offerings for its fans. This allows the brand to meet diverse customer needs in different regions, combining innovation with proven solutions.
