New Nissan GT-R: what to expect from the next generation?
The next generation of the Nissan GT-R may retain its emotional connection with drivers, despite the trend toward electrification. Former GT-R product planner Hiroshi Tamura noted that the company listens to customer feedback. However, due to financial difficulties, Nissan has not yet confirmed a release date for the new model.
The idea of a hybrid GT-R has been discussed for over a decade, but the R35 remains the only available model. Tamura expressed the opinion that a fully electric version is not a guaranteed solution:
If customers don’t want a fully electric car, we shouldn’t make one. But if they accept a hybrid, it could happen.
Emotional connection over technology
Although Tamura no longer oversees the GT-R program, he is confident that Nissan will preserve the model’s spirit. He compared the GT-R to the technology in the anime “Gundam”—a powerful car, controlled by a human, that becomes an extension of the driver.
Nissan’s financial situation may delay the launch of the new model, but if the company decides to develop the GT-R further, it will likely follow a path similar to the Lamborghini Revuelto, though at a more accessible price. For now, we can only wait for official announcements from the manufacturer.
The modern automotive market is constantly changing, and Nissan will have to find a balance between innovation and preserving the GT-R’s legendary character. Drivers awaiting the new model hope it will retain its uniqueness, regardless of the chosen powertrain.
