The next Hyundai sedan is causing controversy even before its official presentation

Updated design and new features

Hyundai is already actively working on the next generation of the Elantra model. A heavily camouflaged prototype was recently spotted on the streets of South Korea, allowing a better look at the future novelty. The current, seventh generation Elantra has been around for five years, which fully corresponds to the update cycle of the previous generations—the fifth and sixth models, which were also produced for five years each. Thus, the appearance of a completely new car is an absolutely logical step.

Appearance and exterior

What will distinguish the new model from its predecessor? First of all, Hyundai will radically update the sedan’s design. For those who never appreciated the sharp shapes of the current model, there is not very good news: judging by the prototype and recently published renderings, the all-new Elantra will have a design no less polarizing than its predecessor.

The front of the car will include a full-length LED light strip combined with angular daytime running lights. The main headlights will be located in the lower part of the bumper. A large, square-shaped radiator grille with sharp angles and a minimum of soft curves is also expected.

Rear end and side profile

The side profile of the new Elantra also looks quite different. The rear window is square in shape, and the trunk lid is positioned higher than on the current model, making the rear somewhat resemble the new Kia EV4 electric sedan. New vertical stop lights are also present, and possibly a light strip connecting them.

Technical features and engines

As reported by

Korean Car Blog

, the new Elantra, like the current one, will be offered with a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a hybrid version. A version running on liquefied gas is also planned for certain markets. There is no confirmation yet regarding a new Elantra N version, but given the popularity of the current model, it would be surprising if a second generation was not introduced.

Release timeline

Hyundai is expected to introduce the new Elantra sometime next year.

The new Elantra continues Hyundai’s trend of bold design decisions that often cause controversy among car enthusiasts. However, given the success of previous generations, it can be assumed that this model will also find its buyer. Technical updates, such as the hybrid version and fuel choice option, indicate the brand’s desire to meet modern demands for environmental friendliness and economy. It remains to wait for the official presentation to evaluate all the advantages and disadvantages of the novelty.
