Even Toyota Admits Their Compact Crossover Looks Too Boring

Toyota Corolla Cross Needs an Updated Design for Europe

Five years ago, Toyota introduced the crossover version of its popular Corolla. However, even after a recent update, the model does not generate much enthusiasm among buyers. This is reflected in sales: in the first four months of 2025, only 11,259 units were sold in Europe, which is 14% less than last year. For comparison, the more stylish C-HR sold 41,950 units, showing a 9.6% growth.

Andrea Carlucci, Head of Product Strategy and Marketing at Toyota Europe, noted:

“We do not have a perfect Corolla Cross for Europe, as it is a global model. If we add more European character, sales will increase.”

Future Model Update

There is no information yet about a full model update, but given that the current version has been on the market for five years, a new generation is expected to appear within the next few years. Carlucci emphasized that the TNGA platform allows for the development of different body styles for different markets, making it possible to create a more attractive design specifically for Europe.

The recent facelift for the 2026 model year, including the GR Sport version for Europe and Japan, did not change the situation drastically. Compared to the C-HR or even the regular Corolla hatchback, the crossover’s design remains quite conservative.

Judging by everything, Toyota is trying to find a balance between a global approach and local preferences. The European market demands more individuality, and the company seems ready for changes in this direction. Perhaps the next generation of the Corolla Cross will become a true reflection of European tastes.
