A 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP400 S Series I will be offered at auction in Monterey. The coupe, with a mileage of only 1,803 km, retains its factory paint, interior, and tires. It is estimated at $2.2-2.6 million. RM Sotheby’s reports this.
Lamborghini Countach LP400 S retains original condition
The car with chassis number 1121086 was painted at the factory in Rosso red, and the interior was trimmed in Nero black materials. It still features original European bumpers and Pirelli P7 tires.
The coupe was shipped to dealer SEA Auto in Rome in July 1979, and was exported to the USA the following month. During adaptation to local requirements, Ameritech only extended the side reflectors without modifying the metal body panels. Additional US-spec bumpers were not installed on the car.
After EPA certification in March 1980, the Countach was delivered to its first owner in Michigan. He kept the car for almost 20 years. In 2000, when a collector from Canada purchased the coupe, its mileage was 1,018 km.
Rare Countach Series I produced in a run of 50 units
Lamborghini produced 238 LP400 S cars across three series. Only 50 examples belong to the first series. They received twin 45-millimeter Weber carburetors, compact Stewart-Warner gauges, and smooth Campagnolo Bravo wheels.
The LP400 S was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1978. The modification differed from the early Countach by having widened fiberglass wheel arches, wider wheels, and lowered suspension.
The supercar is powered by a 4.0-liter gasoline V12 mounted behind the cabin. The wedge-shaped body design for Bertone was created by Marcello Gandini. The auction will take place on August 15, 2026.
