The Porsche Name is Absent on This 718 Model, But You’ll Immediately Understand What Car It Is

A New Incarnation of Classic Design

Almost ten years have passed since the American company Stärke Motor Company first introduced its Porsche Speedster replica, based on older Boxster models. In 2026, the company returns with an updated, second-generation version. This time, any Porsche 718 Boxster or Cayman, starting from the 2017 model year, can be transformed into a modern reinterpretation of the legendary Porsche 356.

Compared to the original 356, the modern 718 platform has significantly larger dimensions. This gives Stärke’s creation somewhat unusual proportions. Each build begins with a factory 718 chassis, which then receives a completely new, unique body created to recreate the spirit of the classic Speedster.

Exterior Details and Technical Foundation

Many exterior panels are faithful reproductions of elements from the original car. The front end, for example, received the same round headlights and pronounced wheel arches that look great. The car is also mounted on characteristic polished chrome wheels and equipped with a pair of compact rearview mirrors.

Despite the vintage look, Stärke claims that all factory driver assistance systems remain fully functional. This is possible because the conversion does not interfere with the car’s basic architecture.

The company does not interfere with the powertrain. Therefore, regardless of whether the donor car was equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, a 2.5-liter version, or a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine, the finished Speedster will retain its original configuration.

Interior and Conversion Cost

Although the exterior is radically changed, the interior remains almost untouched from the original 718. However, Stärke removed the Porsche emblem from the steering wheel, likely for legal reasons. In fact, there is no longer any Porsche brand symbolism on the sports car, even on the outside.

Owners who already have a donor Porsche 718 Boxster or Cayman can expect a minimum full conversion cost of $135,000. For those starting from scratch, Stärke will independently source a base car and perform all the work; the starting price for such a package is $189,000.

Buyers have extensive opportunities to personalize the final result. The paint palette is virtually unlimited, and interior trim options cover an equally wide range of colors and materials.

Such projects demonstrate the enduring attraction of car enthusiasts to classic forms combined with modern technical components. This allows one to obtain a unique car that combines the emotions of classic design with the reliability, comfort, and safety of modern technologies, while avoiding the problems inherent in genuine retro cars. The market for such conversions remains niche, but it clearly reflects the trend towards individualization and reverence for automotive heritage.
