Named the Best Car of 2021 in Europe

The winner of the European Car of the Year contest has been announced. If previously the best European car was awarded at the Geneva Motor Show, now the ceremony is held online for the second year in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The winner, rather unexpectedly, was the new Toyota Yaris. The Japanese hatchback scored 266 points, surpassing the electric car Fiat 500 (240 points) and the crossover Cupra Formentor (239 points). The top five also included the electric car Volkswagen ID.3 and the new Skoda Octavia.

The jury members noted the lively character of the Toyota Yaris, as well as the variety of versions – you can choose an economical hybrid or a 260-horsepower all-wheel-drive hot hatch GR Yaris.

It should be noted that the best car of the year in Europe is chosen by voting by 59 auto journalists. The contest has been held since 1964, and last year’s winner was the Peugeot 208.
