The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced car theft statistics for the first six months of 2018. The first deputy head of the criminal investigation department of the National Police, Colonel Sergey Prudchenko reported in a comment to ‘Today’ that 2,707 vehicles were stolen in the first half of the year, of which 928 were found.
The most stolen cars in Ukraine are still VAZ. In the first half of the year, 483 were stolen. VAZ cars are mainly stolen for dismantling into spare parts.
Second place in popularity among car thieves is occupied by Toyota (267 cars), and third is ZAZ/Daewoo (213 units).
In the top five most ‘in-demand’ cars among criminals are also Mercedes-Benz (160 units) and BMW (105). The National Police report that elite premium-class cars are usually stolen to order.
