by Nissan has launched a configurator for the new 2026 Leaf model on its American website. The third generation of the electric vehicle has abandoned the classic hatchback design in favor of a more modern crossover look. However, it turned out that the base and mid-level trims received fewer features compared to the top-of-the-line Platinum+ version.
For the American market, the Leaf will be available in three variants: S+, SV+, and Platinum+. The most advanced version received 19-inch wheels, “3D holographic rear lights,” and a panoramic roof with a dimming function. However, these “features” are not available in other trims, making them less attractive.
Technical Features
The base S+ is equipped with 18-inch steel wheels, while the SV+ already gets alloy wheels. The interior also differs: the S+ has dual 12.3-inch screens, and the SV+ and Platinum+ have 14.3-inch displays with Google Built-in support. The top version also received a Bose audio system with additional speakers in the headrests.
The most expensive Leaf is equipped with a new Bose Personal Plus audio system with additional speakers in the headrests. This is the only version that received a panoramic electrochromic roof with a dimming function.
Specifications and Market Differences
The car is offered with two battery options: 52 kWh (174 hp) and 75 kWh (214 hp). The range for the larger battery is estimated at 303 miles (488 km) according to the EPA standard. The American version is slightly longer and taller than the European one but has worse aerodynamic performance (0.26 vs. 0.25).
Deliveries of the 2026 Leaf in the US will begin in the fall of 2025, after which the model will become available in Europe and Australia. Prices will be announced closer to the start of sales. It is worth noting that, despite the global nature of the model, Nissan is making certain changes for different markets, including different types of charging ports.
