In Germany, there resides a very unusual Zaporozhets. In fact, any ZAZ there is unusual and considered a rarity, but this particular model is special. The fact is that the car was turned into an extreme sports car.
The project was brought to life by racer Wolfgang Kueter back in the late 70s in the GDR. He wanted a mid-engine sports car, and the ZAZ-968 was chosen as the donor.
The car was equipped with a 1.6-liter VAZ engine, which was placed within the wheelbase. A pair of carburetors and some other modifications boosted the power to 155 hp. It is paired with a racing 5-speed gearbox.

Everything unnecessary was thrown out of the Zaporozhets, reducing its weight to just 620 kg. So, the car turned out to be very nimble.
Additionally, a rear spoiler appeared, and the wheel arches were widened to accommodate wide racing tires.
The car was named Sappo-Lada (Sappo – short for Zaporozhets). The owner still maintains the ZAZ sports car in good condition and participates in retro rally events with it.
