A failed merger could have changed Honda’s fate

Possible return of the Honda Horizon

If the merger between Honda and Nissan had not collapsed, the world might have seen a new lineup of cars from these Japanese giants. One such model could have been a full-size SUV from Honda, based on the Nissan Armada. Visualizations by Theottle show what this car might have looked like, potentially taking a place above the Honda Pilot in the brand’s lineup.

The main differences between the Pilot and the Armada lie in the platform and dimensions. The Pilot is a three-row SUV with a 113.8-inch wheelbase, while the Armada has a body-on-frame construction and a longer wheelbase—121.1 inches. The new concept could have revived the Horizon name, which Honda used for the rebadged Isuzu Trooper in the 90s.

Design and the future of Honda

The visualizations demonstrate how minor changes to the Nissan Armada’s design could create a completely different image. The front features a black grille and more stylish headlights, while the rear has updated taillights and a less aggressive bumper. Although the Horizon won’t return, Honda is preparing new SUVs, including an electric model set to debut next year.

Interestingly, even small design changes can drastically alter a car’s perception. Although the merger did not happen, the idea of a full-size SUV from Honda remains appealing to brand enthusiasts, especially given their tradition of creating practical and reliable models.
