This unique BMW 328 MM Bügelfalte sports car was sold at auction for 5.6 million dollars. At the moment, it is the most expensive BMW of all time and has a very interesting history.

BMW 328 MM Bügelfalte is one of five streamlined sports cars (two coupes and three roadsters), created in 1940 for the legendary Mille Miglia race. The Bavarians won back then, but it was Bügelfalte that finished sixth. The car is equipped with a 2.0-liter 130 hp six-cylinder engine and is capable of reaching over 160 km/h.

After the war, the BMW 328 Bügelfalte ended up in the USSR as a trophy and was given to test pilot and designer Alexei Mikoyan – the son of politician Anastas Mikoyan and nephew of Artem Mikoyan, who created MiG aircraft. Alexei Mikoyan himself also worked for MiG.

He liked the fast BMW and drove it around Moscow. However, it lacked a muffler, and in general, it was not meant for regular roads. Eventually, Mikoyan was forced to sell the car to racer Alexey Podkutov, and until 1948, the BMW 328 even participated in competitions.

For a long time, the car was with Podkutov, but in the 70s, it was traded for a Zhiguli (!) by Latvian collector Guido Adamsons. The car was often seen at Soviet retro gatherings and simply on the streets of Riga. Adamsons restored the BMW and in 1990 even obtained permission from the authorities to drive it in a retro car rally Mille Miglia.
The sports car caught the interest of the BMW museum in Munich, and Guido Adamsons allowed the car to be displayed there for some time. Now a precise replica stands in the museum, created after careful study of the original.

Adamsons sold the BMW 328 MM Bügelfalte in 2001 for one million euros. In 2010, it went for 5.6 million dollars, and now the price has likely surpassed $10 million.
