by New Lexus IS renderings: what to expect from the next generation?
The current generation Lexus IS has been on the market for quite some time, so fans of the brand are expecting an update that will return the model’s sporting spirit. Independent designer Theophilus Chin presented his own vision of the future sedan, where it looks more aggressive and modern. The renders are striking with sharp LED headlights, a massive radiator grille with a simplified design, and powerful body lines.
Design details
The rear looks particularly expressive thanks to the full-size LED light bar and a small spoiler. The car’s profile resembles the Electrified Sedan concept, but with more traditional elements, such as conventional door handles and mirrors. The designer also added new alloy wheels that bring the exterior closer to a production look.

Although the renders look convincing, there is no exact confirmation from Lexus regarding the design yet. The company is keeping plans for the new IS secret, and no test prototypes have been seen. However, given that the current generation has been on sale since 2013 and has already received two facelifts, an update can be expected soon.
Recent special editions, such as the IS 500 Ultimate Edition, indicate that gasoline V8 engines are giving way to hybrid and electric technologies. The new IS will likely offer several powertrain options to compete with models like the BMW Neue Klasse 3-Series and the new generation Mercedes C-Class.
The market for compact premium sedans is actively changing, especially under the influence of Chinese manufacturers. Lexus will have to find a balance between traditional brand values and new trends to remain relevant in this segment.
