Nissan has continued to produce the Skyline sedan in Japan since 2014, and although the version under the Infiniti brand for the US has been discontinued, the model remains popular in the domestic market. Soon, a new version will be added to the lineup — the Skyline 400R Limited, which will debut at the Japan Mobility Show at the end of the month.
Technical features
Official details and photos of the car have not yet been released, but the model name gives a hint about its characteristics. The Skyline 400R Limited will likely receive the well-known 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, similar to the one used in the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport for the American market.
Comparison with other versions
The standard version of this engine produces 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, while the Japanese Nismo version has its power increased to 414 hp and 406 lb-ft. The Japanese publication Creative311 suggests that the model will be limited to 400 units and may be an “underdeveloped” version of Nismo. This means it will have the same engine but without the additional upgrades that the full-fledged Nismo version received.
Among these changes were unique drive modes, characteristic decals and badges, 19-inch Enkei wheels, carbon fiber accents, an updated vehicle dynamic control system, and a modified ABS system.
Expected updates and price
Unlike the Nismo, the 400R Limited will likely receive only minor updates compared to the standard 400R, such as improved trim or minor design changes. The price has not yet been confirmed, but preliminary estimates point to approximately 7 million yen (about $46,000), which would position the model between the standard 400R and the Nismo version in the Nissan lineup.
The limited availability and focus on the Japanese market underscore Nissan’s strategy of preserving iconic models for local enthusiasts. This may also indicate that the manufacturer is testing new approaches to special editions, avoiding global launches, which allows it to maintain the uniqueness of such cars. Such steps often help increase interest from collectors and enthusiasts who value rare and localized versions.
