Nissan Hints at Expanding e-Power Lineup for the American Market After the Rogue Launch in 2027

Later this year, the Nissan Rogue Hybrid e-Power will debut. This finally brings the signature e-Power hybrid system to the American market. The Rogue could later be followed by a Kicks model with the same powertrain.

Planned Launch of the Updated Crossover

Nissan is preparing to introduce the updated Rogue later this year, and it will be notable for receiving the e-Power hybrid system. This technology aims to combine the benefits of electric vehicles with the convenience of conventional internal combustion engine cars.

A Technology That Has Been Waiting for Its Time

The Nissan e-Power system has already gone through three generations of development and is used in over one and a half million vehicles worldwide. Despite this, it has never been offered in the United States market. This situation will change with the arrival of the 2027 Rogue Hybrid e-Power, and it’s likely just the beginning.

During a media event outside Detroit, Nissan representatives indicated that it’s safe to assume other e-Power models are already on the horizon.

International Experience as a Guide

Company representatives did not confirm anything specific but advised paying attention to international markets to see potential opportunities. A prime example is the Kicks Play e-Power, which appeared in Mexico back in 2022. This crossover is equipped with a small 2.1 kWh battery pack and a 1.2-liter engine that acts as a generator. They power an electric motor producing 134 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque.

Future for the Kicks Model

Reading between the lines, it’s clear that Nissan is working on a Kicks model with the third-generation e-Power system. This system was developed with the requirements of the American market in mind, and the European-spec Qashqai gives a good idea of what to expect. It is equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, a 2.1 kWh battery, and an electric motor producing up to 202 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. This will be a significant improvement over the 2026 Kicks, which has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 141 horsepower.

Efficiency Expectations

Of course, the real advantage should be improved fuel economy. While exact figures are not yet known, for comparison, the current Kicks achieves 28 mpg in the city, 35 on the highway, and 31 combined. That’s not bad, but, for example, the Toyota Corolla Cross shows figures of 46 mpg city, 39 highway, and 42 combined.

The arrival of e-Power hybrid technology in the popular compact crossover segment could significantly shift the market dynamics. For many buyers hesitating between electric vehicles and traditional cars, such a system could become an intermediate solution that doesn’t require changing refueling habits but offers tangible fuel savings. The success of the Rogue Hybrid could determine how quickly Nissan expands the availability of e-Power to other models in North America, trying to catch up with competitors in the hybrid segment.
