Nissan Updated the Exterior of the 2026 Sentra but Kept the Engine at the 2016 Level

Updated Design for the 2026 Nissan Sentra

Nissan has introduced a significant update to the exterior and interior of the Sentra model for the 2026 model year. This step underscores that the compact sedan continues to be an important player in the market, despite other models like the Versa gradually disappearing from the brand’s lineup.

Front End Inspired by the Ariya

The front end of the car now looks more technological and reminiscent of the design of the electric Nissan Ariya. This is especially pronounced in the sporty SR version with black accents. Furthermore, changes have affected the rear—a LED light bar has been added, and the SR version also features a trunk spoiler, black side skirts, and a two-tone roof.

We have already had the opportunity to see the future model thanks to photos of the Chinese version, the Sylphy, published earlier. Now Nissan has revealed details for the American market, including an updated instrument panel.

Modern Interior with Wide Screens

The changes inside the cabin are even more obvious. Instead of separate screens, a single wide panel is now installed, combining the instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch multimedia screen. Base versions will not get the 12.3-inch driver’s display, but all trims will have support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SR version adds red accents and a drive mode selector.

Technical Specifications Remain Unchanged

Despite the updated design, the Sentra’s technical underpinnings remain the same. The car is built on the same platform and equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine producing 149 hp with a CVT. Acceleration to 60 mph takes over 9 seconds. There are currently no plans to use the turbocharged three-cylinder engine from the Rogue model or e-Power technology, although the latter is under development.

Prices for the new model have not yet been announced, but the base S version is expected to cost slightly more than the current $22,785. A new SL trim has been added to the lineup.

The Sentra update reflects a general trend among automakers to modernize classic models without making radical changes to the technical part. This allows saving on development costs while satisfying buyer demands for modern design and multimedia capabilities. In conditions where the popularity of sedans is somewhat declining in favor of crossovers, such updates help extend the life cycle of models that have already proven their reliability.
