Nissan is betting on China as a key development hub — and is proving it with the premiere of the new Frontier Pro pickup. The company has opened pre-orders for the model, which has become the first global Nissan to be completely designed and manufactured in China. The pickup is offered immediately in three powertrain versions — gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid.
In China, the Frontier Pro is already available for pre-order in six trim levels with a price ranging from 176,900 to 249,900 yuan (≈$24,800 – $35,000). The full start of sales is scheduled for the end of the year.

The model’s exterior is modern and quite brutal: characteristic T-shaped LED headlights, a massive radiator grille, and wide fenders. The PHEV version differs with a closed panel over the grille and a full-width light bar across the front of the body — a “cosmic” style we are already seeing in new-generation electric pickups.
The dimensions are serious: 5,520 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and a 3,300 mm wheelbase. This is essentially a competitor to the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, but with an emphasis on modern technology. At the rear, the pickup features T-shaped taillights and a useful two-step sidestep for access to the cargo platform.
The interior is also up to par: a floating 14.6-inch multimedia display, a digital instrument panel, and physical “piano key” buttons.

Under the hood — three powertrain solutions, all with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission:
- 2.0T gasoline — 182 hp, up to 500 Nm
- 2.3T diesel — the current version of the M9T engine
- Plug-in hybrid — up to 410 hp and 800 Nm!, electric range — up to 135 km
The PHEV version can also tow up to 3.5 tons and has 13 driving modes for different types of off-road conditions — from sand to mountain dirt roads.
This approach by Nissan demonstrates: the Chinese auto industry is now not just a platform for local models, but a global engineering center. And the Frontier Pro is clear evidence that China is becoming a new power base for global brands.
For the Ukrainian market, such a model could become a very interesting alternative to traditional pickups — especially considering the PHEV version. Power, range, electric mode, and high off-road capability — all of this looks attractive for military needs, the agricultural sector, and the commercial transport market.
