Nissan has discontinued supply of popular SUVs and pickups to Canada without public announcement

Nissan suspends vehicle exports to Canada due to tariffs

The company Nissan has temporarily suspended the export of three models from the USA to Canada due to a dispute over the 25 percent tariff. Production of Canadian versions of the Pathfinder, Murano, and Frontier ceased back in May. The company is awaiting a new trade agreement between the USA and Canada, which is expected to be signed by the end of July.

The decision to suspend exports is related to Canadian counter-tariffs on American-made vehicles. In April, Canada introduced a 25 percent tariff on vehicles that do not meet the conditions of the CUSMA agreement. A Nissan representative stated:

80% of the products we sell in Canada are not subject to the tariff because they are not supplied from the USA

Consequences for the market

Currently, Canadian dealers still have stocks of the Murano and Pathfinder, but the number of available Frontiers has already significantly decreased. Infiniti, owned by Nissan, has also suffered, as its popular QX60 model is manufactured in the USA. The company plans limited supplies of this model from late summer.

The new trade agreement between the USA and Canada is expected to be signed by July 21st. Although the details of the agreement are not yet known, diplomats are expressing optimism about a future arrangement. The tariff situation affects not only Nissan but the entire North American automotive industry, where supply chains are closely interconnected between the countries.
