Nissan and Infiniti’s Future Plans
At the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) exhibition, Nissan reportedly presented extensive plans to increase sales volumes to 1 million units by the end of 2027. This will be a significant step forward, as last year the brand sold only 873,307 cars.
The company revealed its strategic initiatives, among which:
Return of Body-on-Frame Models
In the long term, the company plans to introduce five models on a new body-on-frame platform. According to information from Auto News, the first to debut will be the Xterra in 2028, followed by updated versions of the Frontier and Pathfinder.
Infiniti will also benefit, with luxurious versions of the Xterra and Pathfinder expected. What the first will be called is still unclear, while the second will likely retain the QX60 index.
Details are still limited, but the Xterra is set to become Nissan’s competitor to the Toyota 4Runner and Land Cruiser, while the Infiniti variant will likely compete with the Lexus GX.
Design and Specifications of the New Models
Dealers who spoke with the publication note that the updated Xterra echoes its predecessor but looks “radical” thanks to a muscular grille and large tires. It is also reported that the vehicle will be robust and without unnecessary frills.
In fact, it seems that Nissan and Infiniti want to return to the era of the old body-on-frame Xterra, Pathfinder, and QX4. This should be great news for off-road enthusiasts, as it will allow the brands to compete not only with Lexus and Toyota but also with Jeep and Ford.
Updates to Other Lineups
While much attention is paid to body-on-frame pickups and SUVs, the company has not forgotten about passenger cars and crossovers. The updated Sentra was recently introduced, and the existing Altima, according to rumors, will remain on the market until the end of next summer.
Later this year, the new Rogue e-Power is also expected to appear, while the current Murano and Frontier will receive “reallocation and repackaging of trim levels to increase competitiveness and profitability.”
These plans indicate Nissan’s comprehensive approach to updating its model range, encompassing both a return to proven body-on-frame solutions for off-roaders and the modernization of key models for the urban market. Such steps could significantly strengthen the brand’s position in various segments, especially against the backdrop of growing competition in the electric vehicle sector and sustained demand for traditional SUVs. The success of these initiatives will largely depend on precisely tailoring the products to market expectations and the timeliness of their launch.
