New Ferrari electric car becomes target of mockery on social media
The fully electric Ferrari Luce, unveiled last week, has become a major target for online criticism. Social media users are actively discussing its design, with AI renders appearing showing how the car’s appearance could be ‘fixed’. Even the company’s shares temporarily fell in value.
The wave of criticism was joined not only by ordinary users but also by large companies. For example, Toblerone couldn’t resist making a joke at Ferrari’s expense. Former legendary Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo stated that the Luce is so unsuccessful that even the Chinese wouldn’t dare copy it. Mazda and Nissan also seized the opportunity to voice their opinions on the controversial electric car.
Mazda reminds of its history
Mazda was the first to react by publishing a photo of the original Mazda Luce SS from the 1960s. It turns out that Ferrari quietly registered the international trademark for the name Luce after Mazda let it expire. Although the Japanese brand can no longer use the name, the original Luce looks much better than the new Ferrari. The most popular comment under this post: ‘Mazda is joking about Ferrari before GTA6 is released’, which garnered over 4,500 likes.

Nissan joins the jokes
Shortly after Mazda, Nissan Ireland joined Instagram. Right after the Luce presentation, some internet experts began comparing it to the new Nissan Leaf, posting photos of the two cars side by side. Nissan reposted one such image, showing the side profile of the Leaf and Luce, writing: ‘We admit, we’re flattered’ and adding: ‘They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so thank you Ferrari.’
The most obvious similarity between the two cars is the two-tone black-and-blue color scheme. One could also argue that the rear doors of the Luce resemble the Leaf, as do the black sills. However, overall, the Luce and Leaf are not that similar. Nevertheless, Nissan Ireland deleted the post shortly after publishing it, possibly because the social media manager received a call from management.
The funniest meme
Perhaps the funniest meme about the Ferrari Luce is an AI render comparing it to an Apple computer mouse. However, if the Luce sells well, Ferrari may ultimately have the last laugh.

This situation shows how powerful social media has become as a tool for shaping public opinion about new products. Even giants like Ferrari are not immune to waves of criticism that can spread quickly online. It is worth noting that such mockery campaigns often have a short-term effect, and the car’s true success will depend on its technical specifications, price, and driving experience. Moreover, history knows cases where initially criticized models eventually became iconic. So whether the Luce will be an ‘odd one out’ or a new hit — time and the market will tell.
