Nissan Z NISMO to Get a Manual Transmission

An Enhancement for Enthusiasts: Nissan Z NISMO to Get a Manual Transmission

The Nissan Z might not be the fastest coupe on the market, but it is one of the most enjoyable to drive. That’s why it was surprising when the Japanese brand introduced the NISMO version with only one transmission option—a nine-speed automatic. Now the car will get what true driving fans have been waiting for: an extra pedal and a shifter between the Recaro seats.

We are preparing a manual transmission for NISMO

This news was confirmed by the head of Nissan Americas, Christian Meunier, during the Automotive News podcast. Although he did not specify the timing, technical details, or additional changes, this announcement itself indicates a significant shift in strategy for the company’s flagship sports car.

Technical Features and Expectations

The current Z NISMO version is equipped with the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 as other Z models, but with an output of 420 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, which is 20 hp and 34 lb-ft more than the standard version. Additionally, the car features upgraded brakes, a stiffer suspension, a limited-slip differential, and a more aggressive body.

Although details have not been disclosed, the manual transmission for the NISMO could be adapted from the six-speed transmission of the regular Z, possibly with different gear ratios. As for the timing, 2026 seems optimistic, so 2027 appears more realistic, given the freshness of this information.

Why This Is Important for the Market

Adding a manual option to an existing trim is usually not something extraordinary, but for the Z NISMO, it holds special significance. During the test drive, the lack of a manual transmission was the main shortcoming. The Z NISMO is not as fast or precise as competitors like the Chevrolet Corvette or BMW M4, so Nissan is focusing on driving pleasure—the main advantage of this model.

The sportiest Z drives like a love letter to enthusiasts who seek to enjoy every ride. Adding a manual transmission will only strengthen this mission, and we are eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to test it.

This move could significantly increase the appeal of the Z NISMO for its target audience, which values control over the car and the feeling of connection to the road. In the modern automotive world, where automatic and electric transmissions dominate, such decisions remind us of the importance of preserving classic values in sports cars.
