New Base Version of Volvo EX30 in Europe Has 45% Less Power Than Yours

Updates for the European Market

The Volvo EX30 has received updates for the 2026 European market, mirroring changes already introduced for the model in the USA. The lineup now includes a new base powertrain, an updated multimedia system, external device power supply functionality, and a Europe-exclusive Black Edition version.

New Entry-Level Version

For European buyers, the main news is the lowering of the entry point into Volvo’s electric range. The EX30 is now equipped with a less powerful 148-horsepower electric motor, positioned as a more affordable alternative to the existing single-motor 268 hp and dual-motor 422 hp versions.

This new modification, unavailable in North America, can be supplied with a 51 kWh battery, providing a WLTP-rated range of 339 km. If the 69 kWh battery is chosen, the range increases to 476 km.

External Device Power Supply Functionality

According to Volvo, the EX30 is now hardware-compatible with Vehicle-to-Load technology, although the function will initially be rolled out in selected markets. Using an additional adapter, the car’s battery can power external devices such as e-bikes, audio systems, or camping equipment.

Software Updates

An update to the infotainment system has also been introduced, featuring a completely redesigned settings and control system, as well as a customizable content panel. Importantly, existing EX30 owners will not be left out. The new user interface and V2L function will be delivered to them via over-the-air updates scheduled for this summer.

Special Black Edition Version

Since the EX30 only appeared in 2023, there was no urgent need for a serious design update for either the standard model or the Cross Country off-roader. Instead, Volvo decided to introduce a new special Black Edition version, now also available for the brand’s smallest SUV.

Despite the name, buyers are not offered just one shade of black. The Black Edition can be ordered in Onyx Black, Vapour Grey, or Crystal White. Regardless of the choice, chrome elements are replaced with high-gloss black ones. This treatment applies to the 19-inch alloy wheels, the front Volvo emblem, and the lettering on the tailgate.

The interior uses Nordico upholstery with contrast stitching and dark flax decor to complete the concept.

New Interior Options

If you like the dark interior theme but not the full black look, the Black specification is also available for the entire EX30 lineup. A new option called Harvest has also appeared. Inspired by late Scandinavian summer evenings, it offers light-colored seat upholstery and door inserts made from woven recycled textile, combined with a Nordico dashboard, dark flax decor, and black headlining.

Pricing and Production

Pricing for the updated range will be announced later. EX30s for the European market are now produced in Belgium, after Volvo moved production from China to avoid import duties.

The relocation of production to Europe is a strategic move that not only avoids additional costs but also potentially reduces delivery times for local customers. The appearance of a more affordable version with lower power could significantly expand the model’s audience, making the brand’s electric cars more attractive to a wider range of buyers. The software updates for existing cars demonstrate the growing importance of the software component in modern vehicles, where functionality can be improved even after purchase.
