Nissan N7: Success on the Chinese Market
Although the Nissan Ariya is a decent crossover, its sales have not been a breakthrough for the brand. At the same time, the Leaf has become outdated, although its successor will appear soon. However, in China, Nissan introduced the N7 electric car, which quickly gained popularity. According to the company, as of May 31, 17,215 orders had been received, with 70% of buyers previously not owning a Nissan vehicle.
Rapid sales of new electric vehicles in China are not uncommon, but for Nissan, this is an important success. The company reported that the N7 became the most popular electric car among joint ventures and ranked second among medium and large EVs priced under 200,000 yuan (approximately $27,600).
International Prospects
Encouraged by the success in China, Nissan plans to bring the N7 to the global market. Although specific countries and timelines have not been disclosed, Europe is considered a likely candidate. The USA will probably not receive this model, unlike Europe or Australia, where Mazda also plans to supply its Chinese EVs.
The N7 is not a completely original Nissan development—it is based on the Chinese Dongfeng eπ 007 model. This means the absence of some experimental solutions, such as scissor doors, but standard doors and a modern design make it attractive to the mass buyer.
Technical Specifications and Prices
The base version of the N7 costs 119,900 yuan ($16,600) and is equipped with a 58 kWh battery, providing 215 hp and a range of up to 317 miles. Upgraded Pro and Max versions with larger batteries and additional equipment are also available.
Despite its Chinese origin, Nissan emphasized the N7’s connection to its heritage by placing it next to the legendary GT-R. This could mark the beginning of a new era for the brand, which is trying to combine affordability and modern technology.
The Chinese market continues to dictate trends in the world of electric vehicles, and the success of the N7 could be a signal for Nissan to further expand its EV lineup. It is worth noting that the model has already captured a significant market share, and its global launch could change the balance of power in the segment of affordable electric cars.
