The new available pickup may solve Ram’s sales issues

Last year, under the leadership of Carlos Tavares, Stellantis made the controversial decision to discontinue the 1500 Classic. This pickup, based on the old 2008 version of the 1500, was marketed as a more affordable alternative to newer models. However, just six months later, the CFO of Ram now acknowledges the brand’s need for a new model to fill the gap left after discontinuing the Classic.

During a presentation at the Wolfe Research conference, Doug Osterman acknowledged that there is a clear demand for a more affordable full-size pickup. Introducing such a model would mark a significant shift for Ram, as the brand seeks to change course after several decisions made under Tavares’ leadership, including , which reports indicate may return this year.

It is unclear whether the new affordable Ram pickup will follow the path of the previous 1500 Classic model, or if it will simply be a simplified version of the current model.

Ram also that could compete with mid-size trucks like the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado, or could even target the smaller Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. It is likely to be based on a unibody platform from Stellantis and is expected to be assembled at the brand’s Belvidere plant in Iowa.
