Ferrari Unveils Its First Hypersail Racing Yacht
The Italian automaker Ferrari, famous for its high-speed cars, is now taking it to a new level by unveiling its first racing yacht named Hypersail. This 100-foot vessel was fully presented during Milan Design Week and features a bold design inspired by the brand’s best models.
The yacht’s unusual color immediately catches the eye. Instead of the traditional red, Ferrari chose the Nuova Gialli Fly yellow hue, which first appeared on the 275 GTB car. This color dominates the hull and sails, contrasting with the dark gray Grigio Hypersail surfaces.
Technologies for Maximum Speed
The yacht was created by the Ferrari design team led by Flavio Manzoni in collaboration with naval architect Guillaume Verdier. Like the brand’s cars, Hypersail is set to become a defining phenomenon in its class.
The key to high performance is an advanced system that includes a canting keel and two T-shaped wing foils with flaps. This design allows lifting the boat’s main hull above the water, significantly reducing drag and increasing speed. The hull is made of carbon fiber for strength and lightness.
Some of the yacht’s proportions are inspired by the limited-edition Monza SP1 and SP2 series, and the roofline echoes the 499P hypercar, the Le Mans winner.
Solar Energy and the Project’s Future
One of the most interesting features of Hypersail is the integrated solar panels. They are located on the deck and the sides of the hull. Their placement was calculated based on an analysis of solar irradiation during open-sea sailing. The panels are strong enough to withstand walking on them and can generate up to 20 kW of energy, working in tandem with an energy recovery system.
For now, Ferrari’s final plans for this yacht remain unclear to the public. It is known that the project has moved into the operational phase: the yacht’s structure and control systems are being finalized. This step demonstrates the brand’s desire to expand horizons and apply its engineering and design knowledge beyond the automotive world.
The emergence of a racing yacht from such an iconic automaker as Ferrari could be a real shake-up for the world of high-tech sailing races. This is not just a boat, but a demonstration of how the principles of automotive design, aerodynamics, and efficiency can be reimagined for water.
