Departure from Conservatism
The current Tucson model was one of the first from Hyundai to abandon conservatism in favor of modern and very attractive design, distinguishing it from all previous models of the Korean brand. Work is now underway on an updated version, and once again, its style will undergo radical changes.
Recent prototypes of the 2027 Tucson indicate that it will have little in common with the model it replaces, and these renderings confirm that. The sharp and bright design of the current model has always been attractive, and although the car presented here looks a bit more restrained, it is still very expressive.
New renderings by artist Nikita Chuiko for Abto Mail depict the new Tucson with an upper LED strip inspired by the recent Hyundai Crater concept, with diagonal LED elements extending down the front, connecting with horizontal daytime running lights and main headlights.
New Proportions and Lighting Signature
When viewed from the side, the new Tucson bears a resemblance to the current Santa Fe, particularly with its squared-off wheel arches. It also features flush-mounted door handles, as well as black elements on the lower part of the doors and roof rails.
The rear of the 2027 Tucson may also have little in common with the current model. These renderings, like recent spy photos, show that Hyundai will install a full-width LED strip with thin central lights.
What Other Updates Are Expected?
Official details about the updated Tucson are still scarce, but it will receive a completely modernized interior. If not the first, then certainly one of the first Hyundai models to debut the company’s new Pleos infotainment system, built around a central Tesla-style touchscreen. The question of whether Hyundai will replace the traditional instrument cluster remains open for now.
Fortunately, teaser images of the prototype’s interior shared by Hyundai suggest it will still have a lower row of physical buttons and even a dial for basic functions. This may be a small relief for those who dislike digging through menus just to change the temperature.
Powertrains and Prospects
As for powertrains, nothing has been confirmed. However, the 2027 Tucson is expected to retain a familiar set of options: turbocharged gasoline engines, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid setups. There is also the prospect of a powerful Tucson N version with around 300 hp appearing in the lineup, combining a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric axle.
The Tucson update is happening at a crucial time for crossovers, when market competition is at its peak. The design change, emphasizing technology and electrification, is a logical step to maintain a leading position. The transition to the new Pleos infotainment system could become a defining advantage if it offers a truly intuitive interface, as the quality of interaction with the car increasingly influences buyer choice. The preservation of physical controls alongside modern screens indicates Hyundai’s balanced approach, trying to satisfy both traditionalists and proponents of new technologies. The success of this model will largely depend on how successfully it manages to combine bold design with the practicality and reliability for which the brand is valued.
