The New Mitsubishi Delica Mini Resembles a Compact Version of the Pajero

Presentation of the New Mitsubishi Delica Mini in Japan

The new Mitsubishi Delica Mini model has been unveiled in Japan ahead of its planned market launch. Although the car’s appearance may seem familiar, this kei-car has been completely redesigned and received new technologies. Simultaneously, Mitsubishi announced the new generation of the mechanically related ek Space model.

Design and Technical Specifications Updates

The Mitsubishi Delica Mini was launched in Japan in the spring of 2023, but fierce competition in the kei-car market forces manufacturers to constantly improve their offerings. As a result, the new generation model will hit the roads in the fall of 2025 with an updated design, improved technologies, and a reworked chassis.

At first glance, the new Delica Mini is easily recognizable, as it retains all the characteristic elements of its predecessor. However, upon closer inspection, it is clear that the exterior has been completely changed.

This tiny minivan disappeared for two years and now returns with sliding doors

At the front, the headlights with semi-circular LED graphics in the Defender style have become larger, and the Jeep-inspired radiator grille is thicker with a protruding area around the emblem. The bumper has also been updated: body-colored Dynamic Shield elements have appeared, along with different air intakes and a more pronounced underbody protection.

The hood, front fenders, and doors have become more sculpted, and the top corner of the windshield has been moved forward by 115 mm (4.5 inches), giving the car a more upright stance. Another important change is the one-piece D-pillar instead of the wraparound design of the previous model. Modern LED taillights are installed at the rear, along with body-colored tailgate trim and larger underbody protection.

Color Palette and Dimensions

The color palette has been updated with two new shades: Sand Beige Pearl and Denim Blue Pearl, available in solid and two-tone execution with a black roof. The model, with a length of 3,395 mm (133.7 inches), retains the compactness of its predecessor and complies with Japanese kei-car regulations.

Interior and Equipment

The interior has received a more modern digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch display and a 12.3-inch multimedia system, integrated into a single panel. Higher quality materials with premium beige trim have been used, noise insulation has been improved, and seat configuration options have been expanded. Equipment includes an extended ADAS package and a 3D Multi Around Monitor system that uses four cameras.

Technical Details and Variants

Mitsubishi has not yet announced the specifications of the new Delica Mini, but the previous model was equipped with a 658 cm³ three-cylinder gasoline engine. The naturally aspirated version produces 51 hp (38 kW) and 60 Nm of torque, while the turbocharged version produces 63 hp (47 kW) and 100 Nm. Power is sent to the front (FWD) or all four wheels (all-wheel drive 4WD) exclusively via a CVT automatic.

Suzuki updates its kei van, which could tempt even SUV buyers

The driver can choose between five modes (Power, Normal, Eco, Gravel, and Snow) depending on the terrain. The kei-car has received new Kayaba Prosmooth shock absorbers, which, together with the updated suspension, improve ride comfort; the suspension also differs for all-wheel-drive models.

Related eK Space Model

Mitsubishi also introduced the new generation eK Space. This tiny van shares a platform, interior, and a significant part of the body with the Delica Mini. However, it differs in the front end, has lower ground clearance, and lacks the plastic cladding and underbody protection of its “brother”.

The manufacturer decided to discontinue the eK Cross Space variant, which became redundant due to the significantly more popular Delica Mini. Both models are closely related to the new Nissan Roox, unveiled on the same day.

Prices and Launch Plans

The launch of the new Mitsubishi kei-cars on the Japanese market is scheduled for the fall. The Delica Mini will cost from ¥1.95 to ¥2.95 million ($13,100–19,900), and the eK Space from ¥1.75 to ¥1.95 million ($11,800–13,100).

These updates show how dynamic the kei-car market in Japan is, where constant innovation and adaptation to consumer needs are key to success. The growing popularity of compact yet functional models like the Delica Mini could influence global trends, especially in the context of urbanization and increasing demands for transport sustainability.
