Availability for American Buyers
Last week, BMW introduced the special M340i 50 Jahre Edition version exclusively for the Canadian market, which caused disappointment among American car enthusiasts. However, the company has now officially confirmed that this model will also be available in the US.
The American version, like its Canadian counterpart, is created in honor of the 50th anniversary of the 3 Series and will be offered in a single configuration. Its price will be $75,200 excluding additional delivery and processing costs of $1,175.
This anniversary version of one of BMW’s most balanced sports sedans combines heritage colors and finishes.
Five Ways to Celebrate the Anniversary
Anyone interested in purchasing the new M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition will be able to choose one of five available design packages, each dedicated to a specific generation of the 3 Series.
The first package, dedicated to the original E21 model, is painted in Ruby Red metallic color with a light Ivory interior and red brake calipers.
The next option is inspired by the E30 model and is finished in Boston Green metallic paint with Tartufo upholstery and blue brake calipers. The third version, representing the E36, has Avus Blue metallic color, also with Tartufo upholstery and blue calipers.
Completing the lineup, BMW pays tribute to the E46 model with Carbon Black metallic coating, black upholstery, and red calipers, while the E90 generation receives Sparkling Graphite metallic color combined with Tartufo leather and red brake calipers.
Regardless of the chosen package, each 50 Jahre Edition model includes black Shadowline trim on the radiator grilles and lower air intakes, as well as fully LED BMW M Shadowline headlights.
Additionally, a carbon fiber spoiler from M Performance and an anniversary badge on the trunk lid are installed. Visual changes are complemented by a sport M Performance exhaust system with Shadowline tips and 19-inch matte black M wheels.
Interior: First for the 3 Series
The interior of the special version also features luxurious details. The main among them is the extended Merino leather, which is combined with the exterior color and is offered for the first time in the US market for the 3 Series.
For those not very familiar with BMW’s trim hierarchy, extended Merino leather means the highest quality upholstery that covers not only the seats but also areas such as door panels and armrests.
Although it’s not entirely clear from the photos whether it also covers the lower part of the center console, the result is a more unified and elegant interior. However, it’s a pity that BMW did not install full leather coverage that would include the dashboard.
In addition, carbon fiber trim elements and a Harman Kardon audio system have been added to the interior, and special sill plates and a new metal plaque on the cupholder lid complete the anniversary design.
Familiar Power
No mechanical changes have been made to the M340i’s powertrain, except for the addition of the sport M Performance exhaust system. Power is still provided by the familiar 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid booster, producing 386 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque.
It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels, providing acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.1 seconds.
BMW reports that orders are already being accepted, and production has already begun. The first deliveries to customers will start in early 2026.
This special series demonstrates how BMW successfully combines modern technologies with historical design elements, making it attractive to brand enthusiasts. The inclusion of exclusive materials such as Merino leather emphasizes the model’s status, while maintaining the powerful technical base ensures high dynamic performance. This approach allows BMW to maintain interest in its products among different generations of car enthusiasts.
