New Nissan Navara Model Finally Gets Presentation Date

New Nissan Navara Gets Debut Date

End of the D24 Era

After more than a decade on the market, the current Nissan Navara of the D24 generation is finally retiring. The Japanese automaker confirmed that the long-awaited replacement will debut on November 19 in Australia and New Zealand. The new pickup will be based on Mitsubishi and will have nothing in common with the future Navara versions for South America or the Frontier Pro for China.

Shared Platform and Unique Design

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser video that highlights the Navara’s heritage in the Oceania region. The video also provides the first look at the new model, which will become a “brother” to the Mitsubishi Triton.

The teaser hints that the new Navara will inherit many elements from the Triton. However, the company promises that it “will include design elements that honor previous generations.”

Unique Nissan stylistic features are likely to include distinctive LED headlight and taillight graphics, a sculpted hood, a new grille, and an updated front bumper. The images also show a sports bar, indicating a high-end trim. The lineup will most likely include a chassis cab, single cab, and double cab for work and leisure needs.

Technical Features and Future Updates

Under the hood, the pickup will receive the ladder frame from Mitsubishi, introduced in 2023. However, Nissan executives have hinted at significant changes in design and engineering to further differentiate the models for potential customers.

Under the hood, the familiar 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine is expected, which in the Triton produces 201 hp. Later, the pickup will likely receive a plug-in hybrid option, following the trend towards electrified mid-size trucks. In addition, the company will offer a powerful Pro-4X Warrior version in collaboration with Premcar, and officials have hinted at plans for a version under the Nismo brand.

Market Plans and Competitors

The launch of the new Navara in the markets of Australia and New Zealand is scheduled for the first half of 2026. Since its debut in the region in December 1986, Nissan has sold over 420,000 units of this model in Oceania. It remains unclear whether the new model will be offered in other markets.

It is worth noting that South America will soon receive its own version of the Navara, which appears to be a facelift of the current model produced since 2014.

The Japanese pickup will compete with the Toyota Hilux, which will also receive a new generation next year, and the Ford Ranger, which is the most popular model in Australia. Other competitors include the VW Amarok, Kia Tasman, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, JAC T9, MG U9, GWM Cannon Ute, and BYD Shark.

The transition to a shared platform with Mitsubishi allows Nissan to reduce development costs while preserving key brand features. It also opens up opportunities for faster implementation of hybrid technologies, which is becoming increasingly important in light of growing environmental requirements. The success of the new model in the Oceania region could determine its future in other markets, especially in the context of intensifying competition in the mid-size pickup segment.
