New model to replace outdated Mazda compact crossover

New Mazda CX-20 to replace CX-3

Mazda is preparing a new model — the CX-20, which will succeed the outdated CX-3. The car will feature an updated design, a more spacious interior, and modern technologies. The platform of the new model will be adapted for hybrid powertrains, and the engine lineup is expected to include a mild hybrid based on an inline four-cylinder engine.

According to company representatives, the CX-20 will inherit the latest version of Mazda’s signature Kodo design language. Concept sketches show a compact crossover with a sleek silhouette, narrow LED headlights, and a prominently styled radiator grille. The interior is set to become more premium, with high-quality materials and an updated multimedia system.

Technical features

Mazda has invested significant funds in modernizing its production facilities in Thailand, indicating a focus on Asian and Pacific markets. The front-wheel-drive platform will allow for both base and all-wheel-drive versions. The hybrid transmission will likely be available in two variants — 1.5 and 2.0 liters.

Competition in this segment remains high. The CX-20 will have to compete with models such as the Hyundai Kona, Kia Stonic, and Toyota Yaris Cross. The official presentation is expected within the next year and a half, but the question of its release in the U.S. market remains open.

The Mazda lineup update comes amid a broader trend toward increasing the share of electric vehicles. The company is betting on a combination of eco-friendliness and dynamism, which could be a decisive factor for buyers seeking a balance between practicality and driving emotions.
