British Manufacturer Lola Cars Revives a Legend
Modern cars are often characterized by large dimensions, significant weight, and an overload of technology, which sometimes interferes with the pure driving sensation. British company Lola Cars, known for its racing cars from the 1960s and early 2000s, offers its solution to this problem.
The company, revived in 2024 to participate in Formula E, is now working on a limited series of a supercar inspired by its iconic T70 race car. The new model will be available in two versions: for public roads and exclusively for the track.
Technical Features and Specifications
The road version, called the T70S GT, is equipped with a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 500 horsepower. Torque is 617 Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. According to the manufacturer, this model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, with a top speed reaching 322 km/h.
The track version, the T70S, received a different power unit – a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Chevrolet V8 engine producing 530 horsepower. It uses a transmission similar to the original 1960s models. This version is even more dynamic: acceleration to 100 km/h takes 2.5 seconds, and top speed is 326 km/h.
Innovative Materials and Concept
Despite its classic appearance, the car’s construction utilizes modern technologies. The chassis is made from a unique lightweight material the company calls the Lola Natural Composite System. It is created from plant fibers, basalt fiber, and resin derived from sugar cane. This composite has properties similar to carbon fiber but contains no petrochemical products.
Thanks to this solution, the weight of the road-going GT version is only 890 kg, and the track T70S is 860 kg. The interior of both models is executed in a Spartan, true racing style. The GT version includes only climate control, with almost no other amenities for the driver and passenger provided.
The manufacturer plans to produce only 16 units of this car. The price for the novelty has not yet been announced.
The return of projects like the Lola T70S indicates a growing demand among enthusiasts for cars that offer not just high performance, but a certain pure driving experience. The emphasis on lightweight, more environmentally acceptable materials also shows how traditional racing technologies can adapt to modern demands. The limited series makes this car not only a technical tool but also a future collectible item, continuing the brand’s history in a new format.
