New Generation of Formula E Cars Receives 470 Horsepower

New Fourth Generation Formula E Car Presented

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the Formula E championship have officially presented the new Gen4 race car, which will debut in the 2026/2027 season. This machine has received a completely new power unit with sharply increased performance.

Power and Speed

The presentation took place at the Circuit Paul Ricard. In “Attack Mode,” the car is capable of developing up to 805 horsepower, which is a colossal leap compared to the 469 hp limit of the previous generation. Even in standard race mode, the Gen4’s power will be 50% higher, amounting to approximately 603 hp.

The dynamic characteristics are also stunning: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes only 1.8 seconds, and to 200 km/h – 4.4 seconds, which is 1.5 seconds faster than its predecessor. The car’s top speed is 335 km/h.

Powerful statistics of the all-new GEN4. Reaching speeds over 335 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 200 km/h in 4.4 seconds…

Record Laps and Technologies

Thanks to such improvements, the championship organizers predict that the Gen4 will set completely new lap speed records in the series’ history. On street circuits, lap times are expected to be reduced by at least five seconds compared to the Gen3 Evo cars.

Among other key features are the ability to charge at up to 600 kW and a focus on sustainability. It is stated that the Gen4 will become the world’s first fully recyclable race car. Its construction contains at least 20% recycled materials, and its batteries are free of rare-earth metals.

Management Statements and the Future

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds stated that the Gen4 is not just a car, but a bold statement about the championship’s ambitions. He noted that the level of performance demonstrated by the new machine was considered impossible for electric vehicles just five years ago. Now, the car’s development passes to the manufacturers – Porsche, Jaguar, Stellantis, Nissan, Lola Cars, and Mahindra – who must elevate its performance to even higher levels before its racing debut.

The emergence of the Gen4 could become a turning point not only for Formula E but for the entire world of electric racing. Such a sharp increase in power and speed, combined with a revolutionary approach to recycling, shows that electric motorsport is ceasing to be a niche discipline and becoming a full-fledged field for high-tech innovation. This could also accelerate the development of civilian electric vehicles, as technologies honed on the track often find their way into production models.
